Advanced Computer Automotive is proud to serve our hometown of Lakewood, California. Located ten miles southeast of Los Angeles, Lakewood is a diverse community with a tradition of innovative ideas and a high quality of life.

Lakewood has a unique history. As soldiers returned from World War II and began to raise families, the need for housing grew. In 1950, the Lakewood Park Company began to build over 17,000 homes in the area that would become Lakewood. The low-interest loans provided by the G.I. Bill enabled many to purchase these homes, and the town grew to a population of 70,000 by 1953.

As Lakewood quickly grew, residents faced the dilemma of how to best meet their increasing needs for public services like police and street repair. To prevent neighboring cities from annexing Lakewood, the citizens voted to incorporate Lakewood as a city.

Incorporating Lakewood as a city was only the first step, because city leaders had a truly novel idea about how to best pay for those public services. They contracted with the county of Los Angeles and eventually with other government bodies and private companies to provide the services. Los Angeles County provides the police that serve Lakewood to this day, while most of the city’s maintenance is done by private contractors. This approach to providing public services has become known as the Lakewood Plan, and it has been adopted by cities throughout the country.

Automobiles have always been a major part of life in Lakewood. The city was planned to be located near many proposed freeways, like the 605 and the 405. The Lakewood Center was always a part of the city developers’ plans, and they counted on the fact that people from all over the Los Angeles area would be able to drive there easily.

Lakewood offers many wonderful public spaces, including parks, pools, athletic fields, and the Centre at Sycamore Plaza. In all, parks and public spaces include approximately 150 acres throughout the city.

The community celebrates many special events throughout the year. In May, the Pan American Fiesta features amusement rides, food booths, and much more. During the summer, the Del Valle Park hosts a concert series. On Thursdays, residents can visit the park and picnic while they listen to live music. Every major city park celebrates Halloween with contests and prizes, and some even have haunted houses designed for families to enjoy together.

Lakewood celebrated its 60th Anniversary as a city in 2014. Advanced Computer Automotive looks forward to serving the city of Lakewood for a long time to come.
