Long Beach Clutch Repair
Let Us Help You With Your Clutch Repair
Throughout Southern California, vehicle owners rely on their cars, trucks, vans and SUVs on a daily basis. Driving conditions such as heavy traffic or stop and go driving put a lot of pressure on your vehicle’s engine and other components, even when you follow a scheduled maintenance routine. When your automobile breaks down or is not performing properly, you need an auto repair shop that can handle all makes and models, foreign and domestic to make the necessary repairs, quickly, professionally and at a fair price. Do you have problem with your clutch? Do you have a problem with shifting your manual transmission due to bad clutch or clutch hydraulic? If so, the Advanced Computer Automotive staff is fully trained to handle any clutch repair and clutch diagnosis needs. A clutch is a mechanism for transmitting rotation, and it connects two shafts so that they can either be locked together and spin at the same speed (engaged), or be decoupled and spin at different speeds (disengaged). In a car clutch, there is a flywheel (which connects to the engine) and a clutch plate (which connects to the transmission).
Sometimes the problem isn’t a slipping clutch, but a sticking clutch. If your clutch isn’t properly releasing, it will continue to turn the input shaft, causing grinding. A sticking clutch can also completely prevent your car from going into gear. Some common causes of a sticky clutch are:
- Leaky or defective slave and/or master clutch cylinders - Leaks keep the cylinders from building the required amount of pressure.
- Broken or stretched clutch cable - The cable must have the correct amount of tension to push and pull effectively.
- Misadjusted linkage - When your foot hits the pedal, the linkage transmits an improper amount of force.
- Air in the hydraulic line - Air affects the hydraulics by occupying the space required by the fluid to build pressure.
- Mismatched clutch components - Not all aftermarket parts work with your clutch.
If you experience any of the symptoms above Advanced Computer Automotive is ready to help. We will diagnose clutch problems, transmission problems accurately the first time and fix clutch problems to OEM standard.
Vehicle clutches come in different designs, but most are based on one or more friction discs. The most common problem with clutches is that the friction material on the disc wears out (similar to the friction material on the pads of a disc brake or the shoes of a drum brake). When most or all of the friction material is gone, the clutch will start to slip, and eventually it won’t transmit any power from the engine to the wheels. The clutch only wears while the clutch disc and the flywheel are spinning at different speeds. When they are locked together, the friction material is held tightly against the flywheel, and they spin in sync. It’s only when the clutch disc is slipping against the flywheel that wearing occurs.
